TOP 5: FORGOTTEN ALBUMS TO LISTEN TO IN QUARANTINE

By: Benny Marcus (@bmarc29)
With the current circumstance we all find ourselves in, due to COVID-19, we all have a lot of free time on our hands. Although 2020 is loaded with new albums, we can always find time in our day to go back and listen to some old gems. Whether you are working out or just vibing, these are my top 5 albums that need to be brought back to make quarantine a little more enjoyable!

  1. Artist - A-Boogie Wit Da Hoodie
In 2016, A-Boogie Wit da Hoodie rushed into the scene, dropping his debut album Artist. This album is arguably A-Boogie’s best album to date, containing songs that are staples to his career including, “My Shit”, “Jungle”, “Still Thinking About You” and “1Hunnit”. This album helps us remember and appreciate the flow and greatness that A-Boogie Wit da Hoodie brought to the rap scene. With the recent release of his album Artist 2.0, we can’t forget where A-Boogie came from.

  1. The Black Album - JAY-Z
There is no denying that Jay-Z is one of, if not the most, influential rappers to ever live, but with all of his side endeavors (Roc Nation, Armand de Brignac, Brooklyn Nets etc.), people, especially our generation, sleep on Jay-Z’s raw rapping ability. It is hard to say which one of Jay-Z’s albums is his best, but The Black Album is certainly up there. The album contains countless hits like, “99 Problems”, “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”, “Lucifer”, and “My 1st Song”, to name a few. If you are looking to switch up your workout music, or simply want to enjoy an album with hundreds of bars from one of New York’s greatest, do yourself a favor and bring The Black Album back into your repertoire.

  1. Painting Pictures - Kodak Black
Although 2020 is looking like one of the best years for rap music in a while, there still seems to be something missing to me: Kodak Black. Coming in at number 3 is Kodak Black’s album Painting Pictures. This album is filled with classic Kodak songs that are perfect for chilling and boosting vibes during this quarantine. With unforgettable features like Future in “Conscience”, Young Thug in “Top Off the Benz” and A-Boogie Wit da Hoodie in “Reminiscing” it is hard to not bring back this album. Free Kodak!

  1. Project E.T - Future & DJ Esco
Future and DJ Esco have certainly established themselves as GOATs in this generation of rap, producing or being featured in countless bangers. One of Futures and DJ Esco’s most slept on projects is Project E.T. Songs like “Too Much Sauce”, “Party Pack” and “100it Racks” are popular, but the entire rest of the album is filled with hidden/forgotten gems. From “Who”, to “Married to The Game”, to “Super Dumb” and finally “Champagne Shower”, this album is packed with Future songs that need to be brought back!

  1.     Man on the moon - Kid Cudi
Prior to the release of “The Scotts” and “Leader Of The Delinquents”, along with the rumors that he will drop more music in 2020, the world seemed to have forgotten about the greatness of Kid Cudi. In 2009, Kid Cudi released arguably one of the greatest rap albums in the last twenty years, Man On The Moon: The End Of The Day. Featuring classics like “Pursuit of Happiness”, “Day ‘N’ Nite”, “Soundtrack 2 My Life”, “Make Her Say” and “Up Up & Away” every song on this album is a banger in its own way, and will certainly get you in your feels. There is no better time than now to go back and appreciate this album!
